Welcome to Cascade Commodities.

     Cascade Commodities is a brokerage firm dedicated to purchasing and harvesting quality  wheat and grass  straw.  The majority of the wheat straw is sold to the mushroom industry throughout lower British Columbia.  However, we also sell straw to dairy farmers, cattlemen, and various feedlots throughout the Pacific Northwest.

     Cascade Commodities is the branch of Hoksbergen Companies responsible for purchasing and harvesting the majority of wheat straw moved by Hoksbergen Companies.  Every summer we work together as a family to purchase the straw from farmers in Washington and Oregon, which is then swathed, baled, and stacked.  On an annual basis we  harvest around 70,000 tons of wheat straw, barley, and grass straw.  Once the straw is put into stacks, we work closely with Hoksbergen Hay 1999, LLC. to truck and deliver the straw to a variety of customers.  Our main goal at Cascade Commodities is to serve our customers with the lowest prices, and the best service throughout Washington, Oregon, and Idaho.

     We are responsible for harvesting the majority of the wheat straw ourselves.  After the farmers have harvested their wheat or grass, we buy the remaining stubble  from them.   All of the straw we purchase in the Columbia River Basin and northeast Oregon  we swath ourselves, or contract it out.  Our swathing equipment consists of three MacDon 9200 swathers.  Each of these has been customized to pull a Vermeer R-24A rake in order to insure that we get the majority of the straw into the windrow.  The baling is contracted out to custom balers. The straw that we harvest is put into 4'x4'x8' bales, however, we also purchase straw in 4'x3'x8' bales, and in the small 2-tie bale size.  Once the straw is baled it is put into stacks, which are left to be delivered throughout the rest of the year.  We have posted some pictures of the equipment we use to harvest the straw in the picture site below.
